How to Connect PeaSoup S3 to Veeam Backup & Replication
Follow these steps to configure Veeam Backup & Replication to store backups on PeaSoup S3, which uses an S3-compatible API. You can use PeaSoup as a backup repository, similar to how you would configure Amazon S3.
Prerequisites
- PeaSoup S3 Access: Ensure you have the following information:
- Access key
- Secret key
- Bucket name
- PeaSoup S3 endpoint URL
https://s3.eu-west-1.peasoup.cloud
- Veeam Backup & Replication installed and properly licensed to support object storage backup.
Steps to Connect PeaSoup S3 to Veeam Backup & Replication
- Open Veeam Backup & Replication Console:
- Launch the Veeam Backup & Replication console on your system and log in with your admin credentials.
- Add an Object Storage Repository:
- In the Backup Infrastructure section, navigate to Backup Repositories.
- Click on Add Repository and select Object Storage as the repository type.
- Select S3-Compatible Storage:
- When prompted (twice), select S3 Compatible as the storage type to configure.
- Configure PeaSoup S3 as the Backup Repository:
- Name: Enter the name for the repository (e.g., “PeaSoup S3”).
- Service Point: Enter the PeaSoup S3 endpoint: s3.eu-west-1.peasoup.cloud
- Region: Do not accept the default. You must specify the region to be eu, this is case sensitive and very important to enable Veeam to automatically create buckets. Without the region set correctly, “eu”, the automatic bucket creation feature, Veeam will not be able to work correctly as bucket sizes increase
- Access Key: Enter your PeaSoup S3 access key.
- Secret Key: Enter your PeaSoup S3 secret key.
- Configure the Object Storage Bucket:
- Choose the bucket from your PeaSoup S3 account that you want to use for storing your backups.
- If you don’t have a bucket yet, create one directly from the PeaSoup S3 console; see notes three and four below.
- Set up Folder and Cache Options:
- Specify the folder in the bucket; create a new folder if needed
- Ensure Automatic bucket creation is enabled
- Specify the folder in the bucket where you wish to create your backup
- Optional: set a limiting and Immutable sizes
- Complete the mount server and cache folders as normal
- Finalise the Repository Configuration:
- Review your settings, and click Finish to complete the setup.
- Use PeaSoup S3 in Backup Jobs:
- Now that the PeaSoup S3 repository is added, you can use it as a destination in your backup jobs or copy jobs.
- Create or edit a backup job and select the PeaSoup S3 repository as the backup target.
Notes
- Ensure PeaSoup S3 is accessible from your Veeam Backup & Replication server. Check network settings or firewall rules if needed.
- Veeam Backup & Replication supports S3-compatible object storage for backup and archival, making it easy to integrate PeaSoup S3.
- For Veeam, your bucket must be created with Bucket Versioning and Object Locking Enabled
- Automatic Bucket creation is important to not overload the buckets with the volume of files that Veeam will create; we recommend tuning Veeam if you are approaching 50 to 60 million objects in the backup
